
Portrait Painting With Margaret Foreman RBA
The course starts at 10.00 am and finishes at 5.00 pm. There is a buffet lunch at 1.00 pm and plenty of tea, coffee and refreshments throughout the day. Flint House is placed on the sea edge and the studio is large, light and airy. To ensure the students receive lots of individual attention and help, numbers are strictly limited.
About the tutor:
Margaret Foreman RBA has been a professional portrait painter for thirty five years, Margaret was born in Malaya in 1951 and brought up in Guyana. She trained at Goldsmiths College of Art and The Royal Academy Schools. Margaret has been exhibiting at The Royal Academy Summer Show since 1969. In 1983 she was elected to the Royal Society of British Artists. She is represented by The New Grafton Gallery in London.
Margaret won BP Portrait Award in 1980 for her painting of Sir Richard Southern, now hanging in St. John’s College, Oxford. She has also won other prizes including Arthur Hacker, British Institute, Royal Overseas League Commonwealth Prize and the Landseer Prize.
Her portraits can be seen in The National Portrait Gallery, The Royal Museum, Canterbury and in many universities and colleges including Downing College, Cambridge, and The University of Cardiff. Her portrait of The Very Reverend Alan Webster hangs in St Paul's Cathedral in London.
Margaret’s portraits are beautifully colourful with a wonderful sense of three dimensional pictorial space.

About the course:
This 2 day course provides a great foundation for the budding portrait artist, but there is so much information that many people come back time after time. Margaret will take you through the creative process one step at a time.
Margaret will begin by giving a brief introductory, informal talk about portraits and will include examples from her own portfolio. She will teach her particular method of portrait painting, but will pay attention to the basic skills required to give an accurate likeness of the sitter. Tuition and individual attention will be friendly, and constructive, and a number of people return to Margaret’s courses due to the relaxed and inspiring atmosphere. Both beginners and experienced artists are welcome in the exciting venue of Flint House.
Price: £150.00 A deposit of £80.00 to be paid on booking.
Materials: Please bring your own artists materials. Margaret will be happy to provide some of her own materials to supplement your own if necessary.
